PROGRAM DETAILS
PROGRAM OBJECTIVES
The primary objective of Dream 2 is to help students develop a nuanced, in-depth understanding of and appreciation for the Quran.
PROGRAM SUMMARY
Dream 2 is an advanced studies program that builds upon the foundation that is established in Dream 1. While the focus of Dream 1 is to help students develop a functional understanding of the Quran, Dream 2 focuses on equipping students, not only to understand what they studied during Dream 1 at a deeper and more nuanced level, but also to begin exploring more difficult and advanced passages of the Quran.
CURRICULUM
The Dream 2 curriculum is made up of six core components. Each of these components contributes toward the primary program objective: nuanced, in-depth Quran comprehension. Detailed below is each of these components.

Rhetoric, Complex Grammar, and Poetry and Literature (20 weeks, 1.5 hours daily)
Students study balagha (rhetoric) and complex grammatical structures. This equips students to better capture subtleties in translation and to understand and translate advanced structures. In the later parts of the program, students transition into the study jahili Arabic poetry and literature to better understand the linguistic and historical context in which the Quran was revealed and to try to begin to better appreciate the uniqueness and eloquence of the Quran.

Advanced Quran Comprehension (13 weeks, 1.25 hours daily)
Students read about and study passages of the Quran that can only be understood given context (historical or otherwise) and additional background knowledge. These are passages and ayaat in the Quran whose meaning is still unclear after looking up the words in a dictionary or reading a translation.

Tafsir (10 weeks, 1.5 hours daily)
Students read the tafsir of two surahs with a teacher in order to gain a deeper understanding of and connection with portions of the Quran. This activity helps develop reading comprehension and fluency, allowing students to access the commentary of scholars on the Quran.

Quran Reflection (6 weeks, 1 hour daily)
Students step away from purely academic Arabic and Quranic studies during this discussion-based period to reflect on and talk about the Quran. Each discussion centers around a unique theme in the Quran and students are given related passages to think about them discuss with the guidance of a teacher.

Listening (24 weeks 45 minutes daily)
Students further develop their Quranic listening comprehension skills and learn to keep up with and comprehend faster-paced recitation. Students also begin to develop the skill of comprehending spoken Arabic real-time through audio lectures and a live teacher on various topics, including tafsir and seerah.

Quranic Studies (9 weeks, 1.25 hours daily)
Students explore the Quran as is relates to contemporary issues. Students begin by studying usul al-tafsir then move on to study various contemporary philosophical discussions related to the Quran. Finally, students learn from several sources that cover the miraculous nature and beauty of the Quran.

In addition to the core components mentioned above, students spend 7 weeks building their reading skills. They read an Arabic seerah book in a group setting.
ELECTIVES
In addition to the four core competencies that every student will develop, the program offers additional elective courses that students can choose according to their passions and talents. These courses include:

Are there scholarships available?
Unfortunately, at this time we do not have scholarships available for the Dream 2 program. Bayyinah encourages students to reach out to their local communities and masjid for scholarships and sponsorship. Many communities are eager to invest in serious students who will be able to return and be assets for positive change in their communities.
Additionally, local and national Islamic organizations such as ICNA, ISNA, and MAS etc may offer scholarships for students seeking Islamic knowledge. We encourage applicants to contact these and similar organizations to inquire about their scholarship opportunities.
